NEXT AGM – To be announced

The last AGM was on Monday 18th July 2022 in the Main Hall at the Village Hall. The draft minutes from the 2022 meeting are available here.

The 2022 AGM was followed by the first committee meeting at which the newly elected committee members appointed the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer and Secretary for 2022-23. For details of the current committee please check ‘Our Charity’ and click on ‘Our Organisation’ from the drop down menu.

All the committee members/trustees are volunteers. Some members represent individual clubs or groups that use either the village hall or playing field/pavilion and other members are either elected at the AGM or are co-opted on to the committee. ALL committee members are Trustees of the Stamfordham Playing Field & Village Hall Charity. If you can find a little bit of time to join the committee to help make decisions or offer practical skills you will be most welcome. Please contact one of the committee in person or send an email via stamfordhamhall@gmail.com

Village Hall Improvements

VILLAGE HALL IMPROVEMENTS

WE ARE DELIGHTED TO SAY THAT DURING THE COVID-19 LOCKDOWN & RESTRICTIONS WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CARRY OUT SOME MUCH NEEDED REPAIRS AND IMPROVEMENTS TO THE VILLAGE HALL. Read on for more news.

THE WHOLE STAMFORDHAM PLAYING FIELD & VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE WHO HAS SIGNED UP TO THE COVENANT SCHEME, MADE A DONATION OR SUPPORTED ANY OF OUR FUNDRAISING EVENTS.

EXTERNAL LIGHTING – AS A DIRECT RESULT OF YOUR GENEROSITY, AND WITH A CONTRIBUTION FROM STAMFORDHAM W.I., WE WERE ABLE TO INSTALL NEW LED LIGHTING ALL AROUND THE EXTERIOR OF THE VILLAGE HALL DURING 2020. IT IS MOVEMENT SENSITIVE AND IS PROVIDING MUCH IMPROVED LIGHTING IN THE CAR PARK AND DOORWAYS AS WELL AS ROUND THE BACK AND SIDE OF THE HALL. The change to LED lighting will help us to reduce both our electricity bills and carbon footprint.

As part of the MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) refurbishment, and with the grant from LEADER, CCTV has been installed and is now live. Together with the improved lighting around the hall and new LED floodlights on the games area (also funded by the LEADER grant), we will have a safer place for our younger residents to spend time together.

NEW CENTRAL HEATING BOILER – WE ARE DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT, HAVING BEEN AWARDED A GRANT FROM THE SIR JAMES KNOTT TRUST, WE WERE ABLE TO INSTALL A NEW CENTRAL HEATING BOILER AND CONTROL SYSTEM IN MAY 2020. This should enable us to reduce our fuel bills and carbon footprint.

REPLACEMENT OIL TANK – Thanks to a grant from Councillor Veronica Jones the old heating oil tank has also been replaced with a bunded tank following concern that any leak from the old tank may have contaminated rainwater flowing into the river. New gates have been installed to screen the tank and rubbish bin enclosure.

A GRANT FROM THE NATIONAL LOTTERY COMMUNITY FUND HAS ENABLED US TO COMPLETELY RE-FURBISH THE MAIN HALL TOILET FACILITIES AND ALSO PROVIDE BABY CHANGING IN OUR ACCESSIBLE TOILET. The project is now complete.

The Cooker in the Main Hall kitchen has been replaced and a dishwasher for the West Room kitchen has been purchased. The electricity supply had to be upgraded to install both these appliances. We are very grateful to the William Leech Trust, the National Lottery Community Fund and St. Mary’s Church Community Fund for their grants and for other smaller donations which have enabled us to complete this project.

ALL THIS, PLUS THE RE-POINTING OF BOTH THE WEST AND EAST GABLE ENDS IN 2020, HAS VASTLY IMPROVED THE FABRIC OF THE HALL AND ALL OF THE WEST ROOM WINDOWS WERE REPLACED during the Summer of 2021. We also replaced the small square windows in the main hall. NONE OF THIS WORK COULD BE DONE DONE WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF PEOPLE IN THE VILLAGE AND GENEROUSLY GIVEN GRANTS. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE. The Contractors, ERW, also gave us a discount of £1,000 as we have charitable status.

COVENANT SCHEME

COVENANT SCHEME

Thank you to everyone who has signed up to the covenant scheme. It has been very much appreciated by the trustees. As a result we have raised sufficient money to carry out some of the essential repairs to the Village Hall. However, the ongoing maintenance is extremely costly and we would welcome your continued support. It would be a disaster if the Village Hall had to close because it became a risk to those who use it.

YOUR SUPPORT IS MORE ESSENTIAL THAN EVER.

A FEW THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT THE VILLAGE HALL

*  The Hall is an old building costing, on average, over £1,000 per month to run. (electricity, insurance, oil, essential maintenance etc). There are further costs associated with the Sports Pavilion too.

*  Urgent and essential repairs are needed at the Village Hall. We have achieved a great deal with your help but there is always more to do. The roof, bell tower and chimneys are in urgent need of attention with cast iron gutters and pipes needing to be replaced as soon as funds allow.

*  The facilities need bringing up to date.  (curtains/blinds, re-decoration, lighting repairs, carpets etc.)

There is not enough money in the kitty to do this essential work so your support is still needed.

Since November 2018 the Trustees, with your suppport and successful grant applications, have been able to carry out some of the essential repairs to the roof, electrical wiring/fittings, lighting and central heating boiler all of which required immediate attention. In 2021 the windows in the West Room were replaced and in 2022 other essential maintenance continued.

The Stamfordham Playing Field & Village Hall charity, which owns the hall, is run by a small committee of trustees who volunteer to give some of their spare time to do what is possible with limited resources and they are asking for your help.

By donating to Stamfordham Playing Fields & Village Hall (Charity No. 502613) through the Covenant Scheme you could help fund the essential works to the Village Hall and ensure it continues to be there for your generation and the next. If you haven’t done so already, please consider signing up and, if you are a taxpayer, please complete a Gift Aid declaration. This allows the charity to reclaim 25% tax on your donation making every £10 you donate worth £12.50.

PLEASE HELP TO KEEP YOUR VILLAGE HALL.

How can you help fund the work needed both now and in the future?

The Stamfordham Playing Field & Village Hall charity gets its normal income in 3 ways:

Hiring the Village Hall or Sports Pavilion + Fundraising Events + Covenant Scheme Donations

It would be great if you hired the hall or pavilion for any events like birthday parties, family gatherings, wedding receptions, business meetings, etc.

It would also be great if you could get along to SUPPORT any of the fundraising activities that take place from time to time – even better if you would like to organise one yourself !!!

But, easiest and best of all – you could set up a standing order for a monthly or annual amount – whatever you feel you can contribute – there is no fixed amount. In this way you become a Member of the Covenant Scheme which will entitle you to a discount of 10% on any fees for hiring the hall or pavilion. Equally, a one off donation from time to time is perfectly acceptable.

If you are an existing Member of the Stamfordham Playing Field & Village Hall Covenant Scheme please take a moment to review your standing order – every £1 will make a difference.

If you would like to set up a new Standing Order please click here for the Standing Order Form or email our committee secretary, Sue Noble (stamfordhamsecretary@gmail.com), who will be happy to reply to your email with a form and a Gift Aid Declaration, if required.

The Standing Order form gives you details of the bank account for the Stamfordham Playing Fields & Village Hall charity.
Once completed the Standing Order form should be either returned to Sue via email or delivered to the Treasurer, Edward Trevelyan, at Low Cross House, 14 South Side.

If you would prefer to set up your Standing Order using Online Banking please use your surname as a reference when completing with your bank online.
You should still complete the form and write ‘Already Set Up Online’ across it and please return to Sue via email or hand deliver to the Treasurer, Edward Trevelyan, at Low Cross House, 14 South Side.

Stamfordham Playing Field & Village Hall is a charity and, if you are a taxpayer, everything you donate will be worth 25% more if you complete a Gift Aid Declaration form. Forms for a single donation are available here or for multiple donations(e.g. monthly or annually) click here or from Sue as above. This form should be returned to either Sue or Edward, as above, in order that it can be recorded and sent to HMRC.

Thank you on behalf of the whole committee.

EU LEADER GRANT

EU LEADER GRANT

Stamfordham Playing Field and Village Hall has benefitted from an EU LEADER grant of £11,731.72 to replace the old fencing on the area adjacent to the village hall, formerly known as ‘The Basketball Court’. LEADER is a community led approach to delivering EU funding into rural development and communities, and is part of the Rural Development Programme for England. We are most grateful for their support. The successful bid for funds has allowed for the replacement of the old, dilapidated fencing with very strong galvanised panels, posts and two gates. This now means that the area can be used as a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA). We look forward to welcoming Stamfordham Primary School, Brownies, Holiday Club, Youth Club as well as all residents to the area in due course.
CCTV has been installed and marking out the area for a range of sports has also been completed.
REMEMBER: This is a community facility so please look after it. Any problems can be notified to the committee using the ‘Contact’ button above.
